Giveaway #12 | '91 FXR | Frame-Up Build

Another $30k FXR build... with the receipts to proove it!

This is a frame-up restoration. EVERYTHING was rebuilt, refurbished and replaced new.

We split the case on the motor and rebuilt it with a cam, Wiseco high performance pistons, and Jims lifters. Tore into the transmission and rebuilt it with new bearings, seals and gaskets. It got an entirely new electrical system - every component: charging system, starter, coil, ignition, breakers, etc. If it needed it, it got it. Ride in confidence, and look sick doing it!

This is a brand new 1991 FXR Convertible.

Frame-Up Build

This Vert was taken completely down to the frame. We split the cases on the motor, rebuilt the transmission and completely refurbished the entire drivetrain. This build was inspired by the Dyna DX/DXT blacked out drivetrain.

    ORIGINAL OEM HD PAINT

Original OEM paint is important to me. It's Harley-Davidson history, and it's what makes these bikes valuable and classic. The tank and fenders are OEM HD original paint that we restored with a fresh coat of clear.

    ONE-OFF PARTS

This was a fun FXR to build. The texture black drivetrain and the Powerplant louvered pieces really set this one apart from others I am use to seeing. The build also got some custom parts for FXR Bazaar. Less is more.

    HOP ON. GO ANYWHERE.

Split case engine rebuild on the original motor. There's nothing more reliable than an 80" Evo. The EV27 cam will really wake 'em up! This bike wasn't just built to turn heads, it was built for you to ride the shit out of.

  • GIVEAWAY ENDED

    ICONIC HD OEM+ STYLE

OEM+ at its finest! These 9-spoke mags were blasted, polished and texture black powder coated to achieve that better-than-factory contrast finish. The OEM 11.5" rotors were polished to look like chrome, and the OEM calipers were rebuilt with new pistons, seals and pads.

    THAT ASS IS THICC

What comes off as clean and simple was a fairly complex thought process to achieve. If it looks easy, it was hard to execute. The decision on what to keep chrome, and what to powder black was time consuming. Lack of contrast can make or break the aesthetic of a bike.

THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS

The louvered dash in texture black powder really blends the T-Sport and FXR OEM worlds together perfectly I think. You see the louvered stuff on FXRs all the time, but it's always chrome, or painted. You never really tee it texture black to look like those iconic 99-05 Dynas.

    A TRIBUTE TO 90s HD

I usually pull this Live to Ride stuff off and toss it into the swap meet pile. I played around with what exactly to place here... gloss black V2 cover, chrome contrast. Then it hit me. I think it came out rad.

    NORCAL STYLE

The quarter fairing with the tall shield is a vibe for sure. It gets rid of that clamshell fairing look and transforms the profile of the bike into a tuff Norcal cruiser. These shields are available from Altered Industries.

  • GIVEAWAY ENDED

    CLEAN AND RELIABLE

We replaced every electrical component on this bike: stator, voltage regulator, breakers, coil, ignition, starter, ran LED lighting throughout. The electrical is always the part you worry about most on these FXRs. Worry not!

  • GIVEAWAY ENDED

    SELECT A DESIRABLE MODEL

I love a 91-93 FXR Convertible. This one is a 91 EML vin with the original tins - 1/257 world wide production. It was mostly all stock with the exception of some funky add-ons. We tore it all the way down.

  • GIVEAWAY ENDED

IN CRUST WE DO NOT TRUST

Although everything was pretty much there, it all needed to come apart. Every. Single. Part. Came off and got refurbished, or replaced. The trans got all new bearings, seals and gaskets.

  • GIVEAWAY ENDED

    ENGINE REBUILD

The motor was pretty rough on the outside. It was blowing white smoke when I started it up too, so I knew it needed a top end. Me and JoeKid split the cases and rebuilt the entire motor. EV27, Wiseco pistons, etc.

  • GIVEAWAY ENDED

    THE FXR OIL CHANGE

They pretty much all come down to the frame. I've only owned two that did not need to be taken down this far, but that's rare. this one got the treatment! We pulled this off in 8 weeks!

  • GIVEAWAY ENDED

    TEDIOUS WORK

I spend a lot of time on refurbishing the gauges on all the bikes I build. It's probably the part you end op staring at the most if you think about it. They need to look fresh and crispy! These did not look great.

  • GIVEAWAY ENDED

    DEATH TRAP

I honestly don't know how some dudes sleep at night knowing that the bike they give away has brakes that look like this. THEY ALL LOOK LIKE THIS! They need to be gone through... Yes, that's a spider sack.
